System Shock 2 is a science-fiction horror-themed PC game, designed by Ken Levine, which incorporates elements commonly seen in first-person shooters and role-playing games. The title was developed by Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios as a direct sequel to the seminal 1994 PC game System Shock, and was released on August 11, 1999 by Electronic Arts.

The game takes place on board an adrift starship in a cyberpunk vision of the year 2114. The player assumes the role of a lone soldier who tries to stem the outbreak of a genetic infection that has devastated the ship. Emperor is set shortly after Dune 2000. Emperor Corrino has been killed by his concubine, Lady Elara, and the Landsraad has been thrown into chaos.

The Spacing Guild has presented the three remaining Houses (the same as those in the previous games: House Atreides, House Harkonnen and House Ordos) with a unique challenge: a war of assassins on the planet Arrakis. Whichever House wins the war will become the new leader of the Landsraad, and its leader the new Padishah Emperor, emperor of the known universe.

Eventually, it becomes clear during the campaign that the Tleilaxu are scouring Arrakis with hidden motives, with various probes spotted collecting flesh samples from dead Sandworms. After the last battle with any one of the opponent Houses on their home planet, the Spacing Guild (Guild of Navigators) leaves the victorious House stranded on the enemies' conquered homeworld, attempting to control Arrakis with House Tleilaxu by genetically engineering an Emperor Worm with immense psychic powers empowered by Lady Elara. They also release a mind influencing drug in all the remaining forces water supply on Arrakis to make them slaves under the Guild. It then becomes clear that a last ditch attempt must be made back on Arrakis to destroy the Emperor Worm before he awakes by using the Smugglers Guild to get back to Arrakis. Eventually the player destroys the Emperor Worm, and the Guild's plan is foiled. The victorious house then regains control of Arrakis and the Spice Melange and proclaims their side leader Emperor of Dune.

Descent 2

Descent 2 is a brilliant game from the minds of Interplay. It, like its predecessor, Descent combines flight sim gaming with first person shooting. Descent 2 continues the story of the alien virus that infected the mines in the earth solar system by sending you to work outside of the solar system. New worlds are introduced each one cleverly designed. New weapons are added, the bosses and enemies are tough. This game will provide hours of magnificent gaming. At times, the levels can be frustrating as you fly in circles but there are plenty of walkthroughs online that can help you out.

Descent 2 is one of the best games to come out for the PC. It is addicting, has great graphics, and the storyline is pretty good, considering its simplicity. Gameplay is pretty consistent. You fly your ship through mines acquiring weapons, rescuing hostages, hunting for keys, and then taking out the reactor of each mine. The challenge is finding the exit to the mine and getting out before the reactor blows up. You will repeat this or a few levels and will find a boss. The boss fights are touch and challenging. Each level includes a guide-bot to help you find those energy rooms, weapons, keys, etc. Thus making your life a whole lot easier as you strive to work your way through the depths of the mines. Each world also includes a warp to a secret level where you can gain more ammo, weapons, and kill a lot more baddies.

Overall, I give it a 5/5 stars. Descent 2 is a classic game that showcases great level design, great action and gameplay, brilliant graphics, and even Multi-player support. I have never played with the multiplayer mode, but having read the strategy guide, it outlines several cool features including markers as spy-cams.

Rescue Rover is a computer puzzle game from id Software, published by Softdisk in 1991. The game was distributed as shareware.

Roger and Rover are the names of the two main characters. Rover the dog is frequently kidnapped by robots, and it is the player's (Roger the owner) job to enter into robot territory get him back, hence the name "Rescue Rover".

Each level starts with Roger climbing up a ladder set into the floor, and the player completes the level by arriving back at this ladder with Rover - at which point Roger climbs down with Rover.

There are four different types of robot in the game, each with different behaviour. One type shoots Roger if he stands in front of it, but doesn't move, another type runs around and shoots Roger if he is seen, another type chases Roger around, and the last type runs around and kills Roger if it runs into him. To get to Rover, the player must normally avoid, trap or destroy them.

There are various items which Roger can push around in the world: crates (which float on water), mirror blocks (which reflect lasers at an angle), star pearls and anti-grav carts. Other items in the areas are grated floors (which robots cannot travel on), glowing floors (which Roger cannot travel on), water (including moving water in which crates float with the current), laser projectors, teleporters and force doors (which need an access card in order to be opened).
